HISTORY
JBC has indeed gone a long way from it’s humble beginnings. It’s forerunnerwas a small elementary school built exclusively for company dependents of the Bislig Bay Lumber incorporated which later became Parochial school in 1961 after the company turned over the management of the school to Fr. Alberto Grol, then parish priest of Mangagoy.
JBC had it’s official growth birth in 1963 when the parochial school was converted into an elementary school for girls under the name St. Margaret Mary School managed by the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Sisters ( ARM ).
In 1964, St. Jonh Bosco Technical High School was established with focus on training young males who could answer the increasing demand for skilled workers at the company committed to subsidize it’s operations.
In 1969, St. Jonh Bosco Technical High School and St. Margareth Mary School merged under the name Jonh Bosco School, a co-ed institution administered by the Maryknoll Sisters.
Five years later in 1974, Jose Maria Soriano ( JMS ) Learning Center, a La Salle supervised school was made operational at FDV, Coleto, Bislig – 13 kilometers from the company millsiite. Brother Thomas Cannon FSC was the first De La Salle Supervisor of the school. When the last batch of Maryknoll Sisters left Bislig in 1977, the De La salle Brothers took over the administration and supervision of Jonhh Bosco college.
In 1982, JBS in mangagoy and JMS-Learning center in FDV became one school carryiing the name Jonh Bosco School with two campuses – the main campus in Mangagoy and the JMS campus in Coleto.
Year 1977 was very crucial for Jonh Bosco School. PICOP decided to withdraw it’s financial support for the school. This setback hiit hard the finances of the school but it did not dampen the spirit of the school community who sought out other options to keep the shool going. It took the risk of opening the College Department and the Re- Opening of the Technical/Vocational Courses. Fortunately, the shool made it through the tough times and became Jonh Bosco College.
For almost ten years, the school has borne the said name. But SY 2006-2007 unfolded a remarkable milestone in the history of the school. Jonh Bosco college was formally accepted as the 18th La salle District School. JBC is now De La Salle Jonh Bosco College.
